How Many Lumens Are Needed for LED Office Lighting ?

The number of lumens required for office lighting depends on several factors, such as the size of the office, the number and layout of light fixtures, the location of the work surface, etc. Generally speaking, office lighting standards are 500 lumens (lux) per square meter.

Different workplaces require different illumination,European lamp illumination standards, the standard illumination for office lighting scenes is 500~700 Lux. Specifically offices have different illumination standards based on different uses.

For general offices, the standard illumination is 300~500 Lux;For offices with delicate work, the standard illumination is 500~700 Lux;For reading areas, the standard illumination is above 750 Lux.

In addition, European lamp illuminance standards also stipulate requirements for parameters such as anti-glare level and color rendering index. For anti-glare level, UGR is generally required to be lower than 19; for color rendering index, it is required to be higher than 80. UGR<19, CRI>80 are basic requirements. Some places need higher requirements, requiring UGR<16 and CRI>90.

For a 120-square-foot (11-square-meter) office, five evenly spaced 60-watt bulbs (producing 4,000 lumens) would be needed to meet minimum standards. If LED lamps are used, approximately 300 to 500 lumens are needed per square meter. The ratio of the minimum desktop illumination to the average illumination value should not be less than 0.7. The illumination of the local working area should not be less than 500 lumens. The non-working area is the general space. The average illumination should not be less than half of the work area, and the illumination of the walkway should not be less than 150 lumens.

Other requirements of Office lighting

Color Temperature and Color Rendering Index

Choose the appropriate color temperature and color rendering index of the light source. In offices, generally choose a color temperature of 4000K and Color rendering index higher than 80 (CRI>80)

Brightness Lighting levels

Different environments, different places, have different lighting requirements.

Office space illumination requirements should meet 500-1000LUX

Even illumination

Uniformity of illumination, reasonable arrangement of lamps to make illumination uniform

Anti-Glare

Do not have too bright lights in your field of vision,as they can be dazzling and uncomfortable.

Specific illumination requirements may vary depending on national and regional standards.so it is recommended to perform calculations based on local lighting standards and regulations in actual operations. And consult a professional to ensure lighting requirements are met.
