In order to help our consumers choose a healthy and green lighting, this article introduces the relevant specifications and definitions of the China’s standard GB, the American Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers IEEE and the International Organization for Standardization ISO, aiming to make professional recommendations for the four major elements of healthy green lighting.

 

Four Major Elements for healthy green lighting

1. Color rendering index

The definition of color rendering: showing the colors of objects and your skin in the environment naturally and correctly, making people look healthy. In order to provide an objective index for the color rendering of the light source, the general color rendering index Ra is introduced. The maximum value of Ra is 100. The larger Ra, the higher the quality of color rendering. Light with low color rendering index will affect people's mood and appetite to a great extent, making things unrealistic and deviating from their original colors. It is also more likely to cause visual fatigue and may induce myopia. 

Lamps with Ra less than 80 should not be used indoors where people work or stay for long periods of time. We all choose high-quality LED lamp beads and control the color rendering from the source to ensure that the color rendering index of each lamp reaches Ra≥90, and table lamp products even reach Ra≥98.

2. Flicker

Health effects of flickering.IEEE Std 1789-2015 points out that lighting flicker will have the following adverse effects on the human body and vision. Our company's entire line of products are video flash-free and are strictly controlled from the driving power supply. The test report can clearly see that all indicators are within a reasonable range and have no adverse effects on health.

 

3. Glare

Definition of glare: Glare is the visual experience caused by bright areas in the field of vision, which is divided into discomfort glare and disability glare. In indoor workplaces, uncomfortable glare is often caused directly by bright lamps or windows. Limiting glare is important to avoid errors, fatigue and accidents.

 

ISO 8995:2002/CIE S008/E:2001 mentions the levels of unified glare rating UGR: 10-13-16-19-22-25-28. Each level represents a significant change in the glare effect. The industry generally believes that 19 represents the boundary between perceived comfort and discomfort.

 

ISO 8995:2002/CIE S008/E:2001 also emphasizes the harm of glare to the human eye: it can cause refractive errors, visual dysfunction, and the possibility of inducing disorders of the nervous system and human body clock.

 

Glare is also one of the important causes of visual fatigue. If the light is too dazzling, it may cause disgust, discomfort or even visual impairment. 4. Blue light

The chinese standard GB/T34034-2017 defines the harm of blue light as follows: photochemically induced retinal damage caused by radiation exposure in the wavelength range of 300nm-700nm.Relevant medical research shows that blue light hazards are mainly manifested in eye pathology and human rhythm hazards that lead to myopia, cataracts and macular degeneration.
